“Be in the world but not of the world.”

They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. John 17:16 (NIV)

What does it mean to not be of this world? My interpretation is that we walk our walk as closely as Jesus did. We are all divine beings and that divinity is in each one of us. Tapping into that divine energy within daily is where we find the strength to be in the world and not of the world. This is our protection from the negative forces that are of this world. It prevents us from stepping in to the drama and chaos that often surrounds us. Our divine light and energy are our armor to face the potential battles of this world. Another aspect of this life is not only to protect but also to spread the divine light. We must walk the walk and respond in love and respect. The walk can be very slippery at times, it is most difficult to respond with love to someone who has hurt you. This is when you must look at the hurt in that person. People lash out because of their own hurt and confusion. Those people are the ones who need our love and prayers the most. Yet it is not an easy thing to do, to be able to love and pray for those who are some what undesirable. This is when you need to remember that we are all Gods children even the less fortunate or misguided. Don’t walk by and pass judgement with disgrace. Reach out in loving prayer.

People often complain about the way the world is today. What would happen if we all started to pray and send love to those we don’t agree with? What would happen if we truly looked at our neighbors with love? No matter what people believe or how they chose to live their lives is not any of our business. Sending loving prayers to all is our business. It is not our place to pass judgement on others. Jesus didn’t pass judgement. He taught, prayed, and most of all loved.

If you want love and peace in your life, then start living a more loving peaceful life. It does start with you. So, in that moment between the action and reaction stop breath and respond with love and kindness. You will feel better and the other person will feel better and if not, you have at least given them something to think about. Something that could light a spark within them, their divine light that has dimmed. So, I ask you all to be in the world but not of the world.

Peace and blessings,

Mary
